National Book Festival – 2018
The New Jersey Center for the Book was once again represented at the Parade of the States at the National Book Festival on September 2, 2018 in the Convention Center, booth 612, Washington, DC. The 2018 Cherry Blossom Princess Sophia Czerniecki joined NJCTB Chairperson, Renee Swartz, and Sharon Rawlins, Youth Services Specialist from the NJ State Library, and Junior League volunteers to greet attendees and help stamp the map of the states for booth visitors.
Our display focused on the Jersey Trackers and the Imagination Tree, an on- line serial which is featured on our web site, and we previewed the next adventures of the Jersey Trackers in The Greatest Mystery in All of History which is due out in Fall 2018. On display were illustrations from the series, a sampling of books from authors and illustrators who contributed to this series, and short introduction to provoke readers’ curiosity. NJ Tracker book markers were distributed along with NJ Loves Readers pencils, NJ pins, mints, pamphlets and road maps of NJ supplied by the Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce, and other giveaways from NJ.
An easel captured booth visitors’ answers to the question: “NJ wants to know… What is a book that you cannot live without? “
New Jersey’s selection for the 2018 National Book Festival’s 52 Great Reads is Ms. Marvel Vol.1. The book features a Muslim Pakistani American super heroine from Jersey City who struggles with identity issues whether she’s in or out of her costume.
The National Book Festival is open to all.
