In Memoriam – Dagmar Finkle

Published On: January 22nd, 2024

The New Jersey Center for the Book has lost a valuable member of the Board when Dagmar Finkle passed away in May of 2023 in Savannah, Georgia where she recently moved. Dagmar began her career as a physical education and health teacher, and after attending Rutgers, the State University, she was certified as a school library media specialist. Dagmar was an active participant in any organization of which she was a member. She served on many committees and received many awards as a teacher, a board member and president of EMAnj/NJASL. As one of the early board members of the New Jersey Center for the Book in 2002 she was instrumental in establishing the Miss Rumphius award that the Center awards to librarians, media specialists and teachers for exemplary programs promoting literacy. She was a judge for the Letters about Literature representing the Center’s contribution to the Library of Congress’s national program, and as an excellent photographer she documented the Center’s programs and events for our archive. During her years on the Board Dagmar contributed much in promoting the Center’s goals for students’ love of life-long learning, reading and their self confidence, an admirable legacy.
